VETERAN SUICIDE

THE FOUNDER OF ATV

VETERAN SUICIDE

According to data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 6,474 veterans die by suicide every year. That number is higher when including underreported cases and self-injury mortality like overdoses, potentially totaling 44 veteran deaths daily. According to the U.S. Department of Defense and other sources, approximately 7,085 U.S. service members died in the Global War on Terror. This a persistent crisis and raising awareness is all that seems to be done about it. One huge factor in all of this is loss of purpose and no support system. We seek to establish a peer support network, give vets something to look forward and be apart of.

A GAME CHANGER

VETERAN SUICIDE

Riding is an exhilarating, immersive experience that blends physical excitement, social connection, and a sense of freedom. This is both a physical and psychological catalyst. Physically, it heightens alertness, sharpens reflexes, and energizes the body, making you feel alive and present. Psychologically, it creates a sense of excitement that can disrupt negative thought patterns. For example, veterans with PTSD may find that the adrenaline-fueled focus helps quiet intrusive memories or hyperarousal, even if temporarily, as the brain shifts to processing immediate sensory input.

After getting out of the Marine Corps in 2022 and losing multiple friends to suicide, Brett has continuously looked for ways to help the veteran community fight against this growing epidemic. As a native of White Lake, MI, he found peace in exploring the states over 4,000 miles of ORV trails  and decided to start ATV to share this with his peers. “If this experience can save just one of our brothers or sisters it was worth it.”
